A Bag with a Story

There’s just something about a background story. As a fashion-obsessed shopaholic I’m always on the lookout for items that speak to me aesthetically. But if those items also have a great story behind them, then I’m totally sold.

Recently I discovered a handbag line that checks off both boxes, Larone Artisans. This new brand has partnered on this post but the opinions are all mine.

Larone Artisans is the work of Jennifer Lo and Leticia Labre. The duo launched in the US under their own brand last year, continuing the legacy of Jennifer’s grandfather, who began weaving furniture 90 years ago. Jennifer’s family has kept that tradition alive ever since. Today Larone continues to work with weavers and artisans to create beautiful products and preserve the traditional methods of their craft.

In a world of fast fashion brands, Larone uses mostly all natural and local materials to fuel their slow fashion movement.

The best part: the final result is beautiful and unique woven bags. And, perhaps you’ve heard, but woven bags just happen to be one of the hottest trends going this season!

Okay, let’s talk about this gorgeous peacock clutch. I immediately fell in love with the details and the beading that has been woven into the design. But then Leticia let me in on its own background story.

The peacock design goes back decades to when Jennifer’s grandfather weaved peacock-themed chairs. Today the peacock means even more to Jennifer and Leticia because it’s the bird that eats what’s left behind by the other animals. But the more discarded food the peacock eats, the more colorful his feathers become.

How cool is that?

Though I think I might need to apologize in advance to anyone who may compliment this clutch each time I wear it this summer. Because if you happen to ask, “where’s it from?”, prepare yourself. We could be here awhile. It’s story time.
