What to Wear to a Polo Match

I’ve always wanted to attend a Polo Match ever since I watched Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, so I’m pretty excited to be going to the Victory Cup Polo in August! The Polo is a classic and old school event, and of course the fashion is a big component and probably my favorite part. So in honor of this upcoming event, today’s post features a style guide on what to wear to a Polo match. Read on for my tips on everything you need for the perfect Polo match outfit.

3 Essentials for the Perfect Polo Match Outfit

  • A Ladylike Dress – Going to the Polo means you need a ladylike dress, preferably one that looks like you just stepped out of high tea with the Queen of England. Naturally, I chose a pink floral dress by Luba with the prettiest silhouette. I love the peplum waist, hi-low hem, and fun and flirty skirt. This is definitely a standout dress that looks and feels expensive.
  • A Fancy Hat – Perhaps the most important accessory, a hat is essential to the perfect Polo match outfit. To match my pink dress, I chose a pink hat with a floral design on it. I recommend looking for hats with special details or embellishments. For a more neutral colored hat, I also saw a great black and white satin feather hat from Unique Vintage.
  • Delicate Gloves – For a true ladylike outfit, delicate gloves are an absolute must. It’s even better if you have a vintage pair, but not the end of the world if you don’t. I went with a vintage leather pair with pearl accents on it. Try your local flea market or thrift store, they usually have vintage gloves at reasonable prices. A delicate lace pair would also look great for the Polo.

I completed my polo match attire with a delicate vintage handbag that I picked up at the London flea market. I knew that I had to wear heels in order to pull off this dress, but also wanted to be comfortable for the lawn at the Polo. So I chose block heels that are easy to walk in and have great support. I would not recommend stilettos as they will likely get stuck in the grass, which is no fun at all.

If you’re looking to attend a polo match and will be in NY on August 4th, you can get 30% off Victory Polo cup tickets through this link. If you do end up coming, look for a girl in a crazy hat and that will likely be me!
